Lavandula, or Lavendar, is often planted as an ornamental in gardens and landscapes. Beautiful in colour and smell, it’s also grown for it’s essential oils.
Growing to around 40-60cm these hardy varieties thrive in the sun when planted in well draining soil
Lavandula intermedia ‘Super’
Super has intense blue-violet flowers which are extremely fragrant. It’s an evergreen shrub growing to 90cm tall. A narrow foliage and long-stemmed this plant has extremely high oil content. It’s an early flowering variety which continues throughout the summer.
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Pacific Blue’
An “English” lavender. Compact with aromatic grey foliage on a small rounded bush. Small fine purple blue fragrant flowers appear on short spikes during the summer.
Lavandula angustifolia Foveaux Storm
An exciting NZ selection with the deepest royal purple flowers opening out into short, thick flower heads. This is an ideal, low growing lavender with a compact habit.
Lavandula Stoechas Major
One of the best lavenders producing an abundance of rich dark purple flowers and an attractive habit. Cut back after flowering to see it at it’s best.
Lavandula Rosea
A wonderful rose-pink variety with dense flower spikes in summer and autumn. Trim lightly after flowering.
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Blue Mountain’
A striking English Lavender with greyish foliage and deep violet blue flowers throughout summer. Great for hot dry areas and also looks great as a low hedge.
